Job Description
As an Early Childhood Educator, you will be instrumental in nurturing children’s growth across various developmental domains. This role involves planning and executing educational and recreational programs, ensuring a safe and engaging atmosphere for infants, toddlers, and school-aged children. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and community providers to uphold high standards of care and learning.
- Provide direct care, including bathing, diapering, and feeding infants and toddlers.
- Design and implement engaging child-care programs that foster physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Lead children in activities such as storytelling, singing, and excursions to local points of interest.
- Supervise junior staff, trainees, or volunteers within the daycare setting.
- Assist supervisors or other early childhood educators in maintaining accurate records and observations.
- Encourage children’s creative expression through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activities.
- Facilitate the development of essential self-help skills, including proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
- Monitor children for any indications of learning or behavioral challenges, preparing reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
- Submit written observations regarding children’s progress and needs to senior educators.
- Contribute to staff meetings by discussing children’s development and any emerging issues.
- Establish and enforce clear guidelines for children’s behavior within the program.
- Cultivate strong, cooperative relationships with co-workers and relevant community service providers.
- Oversee and maintain a healthy, secure, and supportive environment for all children.
- Organize and conduct activities for school-aged children in before- and after-school programs.
Requirements
- Education: A college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 to 2 years.
- Experience: 1 to less than 7 months of relevant experience.
- Certifications: Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate, First Aid Certificate, and CPR Certificate are required.
- Languages: Proficiency in English is essential.
- Personal Suitability: Punctuality, dependability, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication, flexibility, good judgment, reliability, a team-player attitude, strong values and ethics, and the ability to multitask.
