Job Description

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for children. This involves assisting with daily programming, observing children’s progress, and maintaining a safe and engaging space. The role requires working on-site within the childcare centre.

  • Evaluate children’s developmental progress to formulate individualized learning plans.
  • Design and implement childcare programs that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of daycare equipment.
  • Engage children through storytelling and reading activities.
  • Support early childhood educators in delivering programs that promote holistic child development.
  • Lead various activities, including storytelling, teaching songs, and supervising outings to local points of interest.
  • Manage the ordering of necessary supplies and equipment for the centre.
  • Encourage creative expression in children through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activities.
  • Facilitate children’s engagement in activities by narrating stories, teaching songs, and organizing craft sessions.
  • Guide and assist children in developing essential self-care habits such as eating, dressing, and toilet training.
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for meal and rest periods.
  • Observe children for any potential learning or behavioural challenges and compile reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
  • Submit written observations on children’s progress to early childhood educators or supervisors.
  • Contribute to staff meetings by discussing children’s progress and any encountered challenges.
  • Uphold and adhere to all relevant licensing regulations.
  • Establish clear behavioural guidelines for children.
  • Attend staff meetings to collaborate on children’s development and address concerns.
  • Cultivate and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and community service providers working with children.
  • Plan and maintain an environment that prioritizes the health, safety, and overall well-being of all children.
  • Organize and conduct activities for school-aged children enrolled in before- and after-school childcare programs.

Requirements

  • Possession of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate.
  • Enrollment in a full-time program leading to an ECE certificate or other relevant trades certificate or diploma.
  • Ability to obtain basic security clearance.
  • Current immunization records are required.

Working Conditions and Benefits

  • Salary: $22.00 to $23.00 per hour (to be negotiated)
  • Hours: 35 to 40 hours per week
